India, the world's leading vegetable oil buyer, imported 5,14,022 tonne palm oils in May 2022.
The country's total vegetable oil imports declined to Rs 10,05,547 tonne in May this year, compared to 12,13,142 tonne in the year-ago period.
However, it was added that the import is not permitted through any port in Kerala
Last fiscal, India's vegetable oil imports shot up by 70.72 per cent on an annual basis to USD 18.93 billion. In 2021-22, India imported petroleum and crude & products valued at USD 160.68 billion, up nearly 94 per cent.
