Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Dec 29 : Lieutenant General Taranjit Singh on Friday took over as the commanding officer of the elite Strike Corps based here.
Lt Singh, who is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned into 65 Armoured Regiment from Indian Military Academy on Dec 19, 1981.
He also holds the operational experience during the Operation Pawan as part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka for two years with the Regiment.
The General Officer has served in various positions, including Command, Instructional and Staff appointments.
His command assignments include command of an Armoured Brigade and General Officer Commanding of Rapid Division part of a Strike Corps.
He has also held different staff appointments in United Nations Peace Keeping Missions and also at Indian Army headquarters.
His last assignment was as the Director-General Recruiting at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) New Delhi.
The serviceman specialises in Mechanised Warfare and Operational Art.
On assuming command, he exhorted all ranks to continue working with the same zeal, enthusiasm and always be operationally ready to meet the security challenges.
