Sanjay Dutt’s adult life has been a succession of troughs and crests: early success in films, loss of his beloved mother, a terrible descent into drug abuse, recovery and reestablishment of his career, an ill-advised alliance and imprisonment, followed by a remarkable late surge in popularity. Inevitably, another seemingly bottomless gorge reveals itself in the form of the emperor of maladies. In the midst of treatment at a Mumbai hospital, Sanju gave the customary lavish ganesh Chaturthi celebrations a miss, opting instead for a simple, homely ceremony with the rock on which his grizzled, stocky self leans—wife Manyata. Can the Siddhivinayak be immune to the ardent supplication in those eyes?

Except for the droopy eyes, everything in the person of the grizzled Sanjay Dutt has put on age since he loped so memorably in Khalnayak and Thanedaar. His co-actor in those, Madhuri Dixit, seems untouched by Father Time, as ever. The pair makes another sally together in Kalank. Root for them.

If Vicky Kaushal, rather than the launch vehicle, Ranbir Kapoor, blew your mind in Sanju, you have to tip your hat to the man behind Kamlesh ‘Kamli’ Kanhaiyalal—Paresh Ghelani, the turbulent Sanjay Dutt’s rock, refuge and best man. In a cathartic social media post, Ghelani poured out his emotions.

Rumours of their romantic goings-on lie yellowing in old gossip pages. But old tales never die, so both Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt were tarrying, in typically weird Bollywood style, to admit that they’re co-actors in a period drama called Kalank. Great. Big deal!

As many worthy men have noted, with their steely stares softening, dadship is the best feeling of them all. Flanked by snugly fitting daughter Iqra and the rakishly jacketed Shahraan, Sanjay Dutt is clearly in a zone he’ll never ever relinquish. As parent, too, Sanjay is a hulking bear of a dad, pretty much a softie. Yeah, he spoils them, but doesn’t get into the way when Manyaata shows the occasional iron fist. That’s good parenting.

The grace and humility with which Sanjay Dutt has borne his years of incarceration is one of filmdom’s warmest tales, and his comeback in Bhoomi was cheered by all. Ranbir spoke of the man whom everyone has come to love. He got a hug in return.

Who Dares, Wins... If there was still doubt about the Indian viewer being a sucker for the suffering bahu, it was dispelled with soap star Juhi Parmar’s (mid-flight) Bigg Boss 5 win. Still, being locked in with a villainous (not!) Shakti Kapoor is no laughing matter.

Twice As Nice Amid all the hullabaloo surrounding the expectant (at least one is) A-list stars of Bollywood, it’s Sanjay Dutt’s new brood that has managed to draw the most ‘awww’s out of celeb-watchers. If the frenzy that shutterbugs seem to go into whenever the Dutt twins are paraded out for their paparazzi dates are any indication, what lies in store for the Bachchan khandaan post-stork visit might be the stuff parents have nightmares about.
