A joint services military honor guard carries the casket of former President George H.W. Bush into the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol in Washington to lie in state.
George W. Bush called his father a "man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for," in a statement announcing his death.
The 92-year-old leader was admitted to the ICU at Houston Methodist Hospital after experiencing shortness of breath while his wife Barbara was also hospitalised as a precaution.
