Meet the Third Front -- here they are, united against the price-rise. It's another thing that while CPI (M) is supporting the Congress-led UPA government, Mr Amar Singh's party may well be in talks about allying with the Congress for the next elections. Who's missing in picture? The lady who may call the shots after the next Lok Sabha elections: but maybe she would be in the Second Front? With BJP? Well, till the time that she and her party alone can be the Third-- or would that be the Fourth?--Front, perhaps. Watch this space.

Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary, AB Bardhan, centre, flanked by party leaders D. Raja and Gurudas Dasgupta arrives for a meeting with Congress leaders in New Delhi. A fresh effort to resolve the ongoing stand-off between the Left and the UPA over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal began today with senior Congress leaders holding talks with their CPI counterparts, after which the Left leaders said the government must set up a 'political mechanism' to evaluate the Hyde Act and remove Left concerns and doubts. After one-and-a-half hour meeting with government interlocutor Pranab Mukherjee, the CPI leaders have agreed to form a committee to resolve the stand-off but insisted that it should be a "political" one comprising leaders from both the UPA and the Left.
