'Why should he (Tejashwi) resign (as leader of the opposition)? If one does not like his leadership, one can leave the RJD or Mahagathbandhan,' Tej Pratap Yadav said.
"I have registered an FIR. In past also I have received threats. I am being attacked continuously. All this is planned and there is a conspiracy to murder me," he said.
Addressing a rally in favour of his candidate Chandra Prakash in Jahanabad, he made a veiled attack at Tejashwi who is handling the party after Lalu went to jail in a corruption case.
The sudden development comes as a major embarrassment to the party which has been beset by speculations of fierce rivalry between Tej Pratap and his younger brother Tejashwi Yadav.
The elder brother had remained estranged from his family members for a long time since they refused to back him in his decision to seek divorce from his wife, just six months after their marriage.
Prasad's wife and former chief minister Rabri Devi, who is RJD vice-president, also made an apparent bid at damage control as she summoned at her residence Bhai Virendra, an MLA, who said he is ready to contest from Pataliputra.
With Laloo Prasad cooling his heels in jail, the family fight can become a big headache for his party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, in the middle of the elections.
It would be a mistake on part of his opponents to take Lalu Prasad's junior son Tejashwi Yadav lightly given the fact that he is widely acknowledged to be a true inheritor of his father’s legacy, tainted or otherwise.
