Duraimurugan, the party's principal secretary and long time aide of Karunanidhi, said Stalin had all the skills to lead the party.
The party recalled various other efforts taken by Karunanidhi to ensure social justice and equality, including enacting a law to enable members from all castes become temple priests.
Though Stalin sits firmly in the saddle, Alagiri's tough posturing may prod his supporters to come out openly against the new party chief.
MK Stalin is now the working president of the DMK and looks set to assume its reins.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Su Thirunavukkarasar backed the demand for posthumously conferring "Bharat Ratna" on Karunanidhi.
