Bhopal, Oct 4 Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi today called upon doctors to "walk the extra mile" and help child victims of sexual abuse.

Satyarthi's `Bharat Yatra' against sexual abuse of children and trafficking reached here today.

He addressed a huge gathering at Bairagarh on the outskirts of the city.

"We must focus on what we can do for our country, and not what the country can do for us. The society conditions children to keep quiet. (They are told) that they should learn to tolerate abuse or assault and not speak up," he said.

"Reports state that over 50 per cent people have been abused as children. How long will India remain silent about these crimes?" he asked.

Speaking at People's University, Satyarthi appealed medical professionals to do their bit for the victims of abuse.

Addressing over 2,000 doctors, he asked them if they would be willing to treat, without fees, the children who have faced sexual violence.

"Madhya Pradesh is my home, you are my people. You are doctors and I request you all to walk the extra mile for any child who is suffering physically and mentally. They need you," he said.

The 35-day-long Bharat Yatra is aimed at creating awareness about sexual abuse of children and trafficking.
