The new coronavirus has claimed at least 200,736 lives since its outbreak in China in December, according to a tally from official sources compiled by AFP.

More than 2,864,070 cases were registered in 193 countries and territories. Of these cases, at least 772,900 are now considered recovered.

The average doubling rate of COVID-19 cases in the country is 9.1 days as of now and from Friday 8 am to Saturday 8 am, India recorded a six per cent growth in new cases, which is the lowest daily growth rate recorded since the country crossed 100 cases, the government said.

8:15 PM: After some staffers of the Delhi government's Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital tested positive for coronavirus, the medical facility has decided to screen all its staff members and it will be shut for the next three days, officials said on Sunday.

The hospital is located in Jahangirpuri, which is one of the containment zones in the national capital.

8:10 PM:  Sri Lanka cancelled the leave of all security forces personnel to contain the spread of coronavirus after 95 sailors tested positive for the killer disease.

3:52PM: Spain's daily coronavirus death toll dropped to 288 on Sunday, the lowest since March 20, as the country eased its lockdown to allow children outside for the first time in six weeks.

The health ministry said the figure dropped from 378 on Saturday and brought Spain's total toll to 23,190, the third highest number of deaths after the United States and Italy.


3:42PM: A junior doctor at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College here has been tested positive for COVID-19, the third medic in the establishment to be infected with the virus, Aligarh district health authorities said.

2:39PM:  Two more persons, including a healthcare worker at AIIMS, Rishikesh have tested positive for COVID-19 in Uttarakhand, taking the number of confirmed pandemic cases in the state to 50. 

2:37PM: The Supreme Court heard 593 matters via video-conferencing and delivered judgement in 215 of them in a month during the unprecedented nationwide lockdown.

1:06PM: A senior government doctor involved in the fight against COVID-19 and a 34-year-old man, both diagnosed with the diease, died at a hospital in Kolkata on Sunday, sources at the facility said.


1:02PM: Fourteen Border Security Force (BSF) jawans have been quarantined in Chhattisgarh for suspected coronavirus infection after they returned from Agra, officials said on Sunday.

Their final test reports are awaited, a senior official said.

10:27AM: Rajasthan recorded 58 fresh cases of coronavirus on Sunday, taking the state's virus tally to 2,141, an official said.


The state has so far seen 35 deaths due to the virus, with Jaipur accounting for 19 deaths.

10: 01 AM:  To contain biomedical waste, a Gujarat-based company has developed reusable Personal protective equipment (PPE) kits amid the coronavirus outbreak.

9:36 AM: The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 824 and the number of cases climbed to 26,496 in India on Sunday, according to the Union health ministry.

The death toll increased by 45 and the number of cases by 1,554 since the ministry last updated its data on Saturday evening.

8:27 AM:  The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital on Saturday rose to 2,625, with 111 new cases and one fresh death being reported in a day, according to the Delhi government authorities.


Of the total number of 54 fatalities reported till date, 29 of the deceased were aged 60 and above, making over 53 per cent of the total death cases, they said.

8:24 AM: With six new cases of COVID-19 reported from Jajpur, the total number of positive cases in Odisha has reached 100, according to the state information and public relations department.

8:20 AM:  Governments should not issue so-called "immunity passports" or "risk-free certificates" as a way of easing lockdowns, the World Health Organization (WHO) said.

The WHO's guidance is based on evidence from researchers all around the world. But it could well change as we rapidly learn more about this virus, the BBC reported.
