IPL 2025: Suryakumar Yadav Matches Temba Bavuma’s Record With Blistering Knock

In a high-stakes clash against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede, SKY played a masterclass under pressure, crafting a fluent 73 off 43 balls that not only anchored MI’s innings but also propelled them to a competitive total of 180 — a score that once looked out of reach when they were limping at 98 for 4

At a time when Mumbai Indians desperately needed inspiration to stay alive in IPL 2025, Suryakumar Yadav once again rose to the occasion with a knock that was equal parts composure and carnage. (Match Blog | Scorecard)

In a high-stakes clash against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede, SKY played a masterclass under pressure, crafting a fluent 73 off 43 balls that not only anchored MI’s innings but also propelled them to a competitive total of 180 — a score that once looked out of reach when they were limping at 98 for 4.

The hallmark of Suryakumar’s innings was his adaptability. Early on, when wickets were tumbling at the other end, he curbed his natural instincts and batted with calculated restraint, reaching his half-century off 36 balls.

But as the death overs approached, he switched gears seamlessly. With trademark flicks, scoops, and audacious strokes over extra cover, Suryakumar turned the heat on DC’s bowlers and gave the Wankhede crowd a performance to remember.

In the process, the 33-year-old matched a rare T20 feat, equalling Temba Bavuma’s record of 13 consecutive scores of 25 or more in T20 cricket — a record that stood untouched since 2020.

By doing so, he left behind a list of renowned T20 names including Brad Hodge, Jacques Rudolph, Kumar Sangakkara, Chris Lynn, and Kyle Mayers, all of whom had achieved the landmark 11 times in succession.

With 583 runs in 13 matches, SKY has now climbed to third on the IPL 2025 Orange Cap standings. More importantly for Mumbai Indians, his innings has kept their playoff hopes burning bright — a win here will knock Delhi Capitals out and seal MI’s place in the top four.
