Punjab Kings have faltered in the race for top two and that has once again changed the dynamics in the points table. Below are the latest developments from IPL 2025 with just a handful of games to go.

DC beat PBKS:

In another Punjab Kings twist to the race for top two, Punjab Kings stumbled against Delhi Capitals on Saturday in a thrilling game. PBKS posted 206/8 but the Capitals chased down the target with two balls to go. It means that all of top three have now lost their 13th game of the season which spices up things in the race top two and brings even Mumbai Indians in contention.

Patidar, Cummins Fined:

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar and Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins have both been fined for their respective teams’ slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League clash on Friday. Cummins was fined Rs 12 lakhs as it was his team's first such offence while Patidar was docked Rs 24 lakh as it was his side's second such offence.

SRH had beaten RCB by 43 runs in the clash.

Shubman Gill: New India Test Captain

Shubman Gill was named as the new Test captain, replacing the retired Rohit Sharma for the upcoming England tour next month. At 25 years and 258 days, Gill becomes India's fifth-youngest cricketer to lead India in Tests, behind the likes of Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi (21 years, 77 days), Sachin Tendulkar (23 years, 169 days), Kapil Dev (24 years, 48 days), and Ravi Shastri (25 years, 229

SQUAD: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk/vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

Orange Cap:

Gujarat Titans duo B Sai Sudharsan (638 runs) and Shubman Gill (636) continue to dominate the Orange Cap standings, holding the top two spots with consistency. Mumbai Indians’ Suryakumar Yadav follows in third with 583 runs.

Virat Kohli, who missed out due to a washout in RCB’s previous game, returned with a quickfire 43 off 25 balls but stays at No. 6 with 548 runs from 12 innings. With players above him unlikely to feature in playoffs, Kohli remains a strong contender to surge back into the top five.

Purple Cap:

GT’s Prasidh Krishna and CSK’s Noor Ahmad lead the Purple Cap chart with 21 wickets each. MI’s Trent Boult sits third with 18, narrowly ahead of RCB’s Josh Hazlewood, who is also on 18 but has missed recent games. PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh remains one to watch, especially with his team still in the mix. He currently has 16 wickets and could climb higher with another impactful outing.

Points Table:

Despite Delhi Capitals signing off with a commanding win, they stay 5th on the table with 15 points from 14 games, falling short of a playoff spot. The loss is more damaging for Punjab Kings, who remain 2nd with 17 points but now face the real threat of being overtaken by RCB or Mumbai Indians.

The battle for the second playoff spot is wide open. RCB and MI are breathing down Punjab’s neck, and all eyes will be on the final league clashes — PBKS vs MI and RCB vs LSG. With so much at stake, the final standings could come down to net run rate and nerve under pressure.
