The city police have decreed that words like "hot", "wet" and "wild" shouldn’t be used to promote year-end bashes at hotels and clubs. Nor can they use pictures of dancing girls or wine glasses in promotions. In fact, all material will now be vetted by the police first and offenders, warned Calcutta deputy commissioner (HQ) Anuj Sharma, will face heavy penalties. The move, he says, was sparked by complaints last year about "indecent" ads. The police are also gearing up to play spoilsport to year-end revelries. Stand-alone bars normally have to close by 12 midnight and those in five-stars by 2 am but it being year-end, they usually wrangle permission to serve liquor till the wee hours. Not so this year.
