The third Test match between India and England began on Thursday at the "Mecca of Cricket," Lord's Cricket Ground. England won the toss and chose to bat first. Day 1 was marked by many ups and downs, much like the slope of the pitch.

Let's take a look at what happened on 10 July, which is related to India's tour of England 2025.

Nitish Kumar Reddy's Rare Feat

In just his second red-ball match on English soil, the 21-year-old pacer made an immediate impact by taking two wickets in his very first over. This remarkable achievement matches a rare feat last accomplished by Irfan Pathan in 2006.

Pathan famously took a hat-trick in his first over against Pakistan in Karachi, and now Reddy joins him as only the second Indian pacer since 2002 to strike twice in his opening over of a men’s Test innings.

After a challenging opening spell from Jasprit Bumrah, Reddy was introduced and quickly made his mark. He first dismissed Ben Duckett with a leg-side delivery that was edged to Rishabh Pant. Just three balls later, he bowled a superb delivery that angled in and seamed away enough to take Zak Crawley’s edge, reducing England to 45 for 2.

Joe Root Completes 3000 Test Runs Against India

On July 10 at Lord’s, Joe Root made history by becoming the first batter ever to score 3,000 runs in Test cricket against India. This remarkable achievement adds yet another milestone to his already illustrious career and solidifies his status as one of the finest batters of his generation.

Root reached this landmark during the third Test of the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy. He brought up the 45 runs he needed to exceed the 3,000-run mark against India by hitting a boundary off Nitish Kumar Reddy in the 44th over. This match, taking place at the Home of Cricket, is Root’s 33rd Test against India, a rivalry that began with his debut in Nagpur in 2012.

Dhruv Jurel Replaces Rishabh Pant

Day 1 of the third Test of the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy at Lord’s saw mixed fortunes for India as vice-captain Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury while fielding during England’s first innings.

The injury occurred in the 34th over when Pant dived to stop a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah and was struck on the fingertips of his left hand. Despite receiving treatment, he walked off the field shortly after, leading to Dhruv Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties.

Bumrah Bowled Brook!

Jasprit Bumrah got his first wicket in the ongoing third Test match against England at the Lord's Cricket Ground when he dismissed English batter Harry Brook on the fifth delivery of the 55th over.

Brook, who has made a ton and a 99-run score in this series, was looking good when Bumrah's inswinging delivery left him perplexed. He made 11 runs off 20 balls.

Now, Indian bowlers are trying to break the partnership between Ben Stokes and Joe Root and restrict England to a score as low as possible. England are 216/4 after 70 overs on Day 1.
