The battle for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is in full flow as the first day of the opening Test of the five-match series between India and England finished on Friday. India took the upperhand but there is still enough time left for the hosts to bounce back. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with tons while Rishabh Pant got a fifty. Shubman Gill's century
Shubman Gill came up with a century in his maiden innings as India's Test captain to put the team into solid position. India finished at 359/3 with Gill batting at 127 in what is his first century in SENA countries. Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal too had raised a century to set up a good platform for India.
Gill also joined the elite list of Indian captains with century in their first innings as skipper. Only Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Virat Kohli had achieved this feat before Gill.
Gill-Jaiswal partnership
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are both considered as among the best young players of this generations. There camaraderie was on display when the duo stitched a 129-run partnership on the opening day of the Test match. Here is a video of the duo fine tuning their communication while running.
Pujara-Vaughan banter
In the pre-show for the first Test, Cheteshwar Pujara reminded Michael Vaughan of the former English captain's prediction about India's tour to Australia in 2020-21. Vaughan had predicted a whitewash where India would lose to Australia 4-0 but India managed to upstage Australia 2-1 in one of their most memorable Test series victories.
