Srinagar Police have detained two individuals for hoisting the United States and Israeli flags in the Balhama area during night hours. The Police said that this was an apparent attempt to disturb public peace and order.
The action came after Shias in Kashmir openly came in support of Iran, while political parties have issued strong condemnation against Israel for attacking Iran.
The police said that it acted on 'credible inputs', including visual evidence indicating the installation of United States and Israeli flags and launched a prompt investigation using various techniques and ground-level verification.
During the investigation, six to seven suspects were identified and questioned. Sustained interrogation led to the confirmation of the involvement of three individuals."
Police said that the accused have been identified as Mohsin Ali Dar of Balhama, Bilal Ahmad Dar of Dar Mohalla, Balhama and Amir Ali Dar of Khazir Mohalla, Balhama.
"Two of the accused have been detained, while strenuous efforts are underway to apprehend the third,” the police said.
"The act is being seen as a deliberate attempt to provoke public sentiment, disturb communal harmony, and propagate anti-social narratives. Legal action under the relevant provisions of law has been initiated. Srinagar Police remains committed to maintaining peace and public order in the district", police further added.
Before the war between Israel and Iran, police have in the past foiled attempts aimed at vitiating the communal harmony. In January this year, police said that they charged six miscreants under sections 126 & 170 of the BNSS, who have been detained at Central Jail, Srinagar, for inciting sectarian unrest “through derogatory remarks.”
“The public is hereby warned that any individual found engaging in similar unlawful activities, including posting or sharing sectarian content with the intent to create division or disturb public harmony, will meet the same fate,” police said after some derogatory remarks were made against the companions of Prophet (PBUH), resulting in communal tensions.
