Aside from the IPL 2025 Suspension and India-Pakistan Tension, the BCCI and it's selection committee have to decide on the next Indian cricket team Test captain following Rohit Sharma's retirement.

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from Test cricket with immediate effect on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Rohit posted this on his Instagram, wherein he shared his Test cap (280th player to represent India) along with the text, "Hello everyone, I would just like to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It’s been an absolute honour to represent my country in whites. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. I will continue to represent India in the ODI format."

The Indian cricket team will be involved in a five-match Test series against Ben Stokes' England, starting with the 1st Test on June 20 at Headingley.

However, with Rohit's retirement, question marks remain as to who could take over the mantle of India's next Test captain.

The names of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and a certain Virat Kohli are thrown in the mix. However, as per reports, Shubman Gill is leading the line to be India's next Test captain.
