In a surprise and unexplained move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has suspended his oft-usedTwitter account containing volatile comments and shifted to an alternative one.

On Tuesday evening, a post by @myogiadityanath declared itself as the official account of Adityanath.

A day later, BJP’s official Twitter handle, which used to tag Adityanath’s old account, confirmed the change in Adityanath’s Twitter handle.

According to The Financial Express, Adityanth’s suspended Twitter handle, @yogi_adityanath, had around 2.39 lakh followers, and followed 33 people. The now-suspended account was verified soon after Adityanath took oath on Sunday, March 19.

His new account, @myogiadityanath, has been in existence since September 2015. As this story is filed, this account has 68.4k followers.

The change has not only created confusion but also aroused suspicion. Some believe that it could be part of an attempt to bury the old tweets of Adityanath, who has often created headline with his ‘hate speech’ some of which are now resurfacing on the internet.

Some others believe that it could be also part of his attempt to rebrand himself. Some also believe that Adityanath is  following the footsteps of Prime Minister Modi to emerge as a mass leader.

Besides his account, @myogiadityanath, he will also be tweeting from UP CM’s official account, @CMOfficeUP. As this story is filed, @CMOfficeUP has 436K followers.

Soon may come a time when Indians will ask for archiving of tweets by public figures and offices as practised by the White House in the US.
