Charges: under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well Section 120-b of the IPC
The former Karnataka chief minister was chargesheeted in the Classik Computers case relating to the purchase of Apple Macintosh computers for government use. The order was sanctioned and money released in a matter of hours. CBI investigators said the money was later taken to Bangarappa's house in a Maruti Omni.
He also faces charges in the PC Dental College case, under Sections 7, 12, 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Bangarappa allegedly received Rs 10 lakh while one of his cabinet colleagues received a further Rs 29 lakh for sanctioning a dental college although Bangalore University was not in favour of the move. Students were admitted far in excess of university norms and those who were offloaded filed the case. That put Bangarappa on the mat.
