You’ve lost a lot of weight.
Yes, this film required me to have a toned body in order to look like a boy.
And you learnt cricket too.
I went through extensive training for about six months and you’ll see how good I am.
Who did you train with?
This great coach, Anjali Pandharkar, who used to be a former player in the Indian team.
Was having to learn cricket daunting?
That was actually the most exciting reason why I signed the film. Me playing a boy and me playing cricket...these were the two things that got me hooked to the script. Films where I get to learn something new are exciting.
How difficult was it?
It was difficult physically. I had to look athletic and toned to be a player. Then the whole process of gluing the beard to my face each day and living with it. That was tough!
How was it working with the new director Anurag Singh?
Anurag is very funny but he’d decided to be serious throughout the making of the film. I knew him before so it used to amuse me.
And Shahid?
As an actor, I think he’s at his best, he’s matured and was amazing. Also, the love and respect we share added to our comfort levels.
We heard your were unhappy with the shooting etc....
They were rumours.
How happy are you with the film?
I’m very happy with my role and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing it. From not being able to hold a bat to hitting sixes; the discussions on the look for my character which today people call me and say is “so cute”.
Will the film surprise us?
See, you’re going to watch a film called Dil Bole Hadippa so you know what you’re getting into. It’s a fun film. You’ll smile, you’ll laugh, you’ll move with the characters.
