UEFA Europa League 2022-23: Scott McTominay Late Goal Helps Manchester United Beat Omonoia Nicosia; Arsenal Win

English clubs Arsenal and Manchester United won their respective UEFA Europa League games with a 1-0 margins.

Scott McTominay scored deep into stoppage time to give Manchester United a 1-0 victory over Omonoia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday. Real Betis failed to stay perfect in Group C after it was held 1-1 at home by Roma. Andrea Belotti salvaged a point for Jose Mourinho’s team with a second-half equalizer after a deflected shot by Sergio Canales gave the hosts a first-half lead. The Spanish team dominates the group with 10 points. Roma is on four. Ludogorets beat HJK 2-0 to stay second on seven.

European competition newcomer Union St. Gilloise of Belgium drew 3-3 at home with Braga. Vitor Oliveira’s hat trick put Braga ahead 3-1 but the hosts came back with Victor Boniface’s second goal and another one from Dante Vanzeir. Union stays atop Group D with 10 points.

In a tightly contested Group F, Feyenoord was held 2-2 by Midtjylland while 10-man Lazio drew 2-2 with Sturm. All four teams are on five points.

Ciro Immobile converted a penalty in the final minute of the first half for Lazio before teammate Manuel Lazzari received the second yellow and was sent off still in stoppage time.

William Bøving equalized before Pedro Rodríguez restored Lazio’s lead but Bøving tied it at 2-2 with his second.

Fenerbahce won 2-1 at AEK Larnaca and Rennes beat Ukraine’s Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 in Krakow, Poland for a joint lead of Group B with 10 points.

EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE

In the third-tier Europa Conference League, West Ham beat Anderlecht 2-1 to extend its perfect start to four wins in Group B.

Said Benrahma netted from a free kick and Jarrod Bowen added another one from 15 meters (yards). Sebastiano Esposito scored a late penalty for the Belgian club.

West Ham won 1-0 at Anderlecht last week. The teams met in the 1976 final of the now-defunct European Cup Winners’ Cup, which Anderlecht won 4-2.

Also, Villarreal kept its 100% record after a 1-0 win at Austria Vienna. After Lech only played to a 1-1 draw at H. Beer-Sheva in another Group C match, the victory earned the Spaniards a spot in the round of 16 with two games to go.

In Group E, Apollon Limassol beat AZ Alkmaar 1-0 for its first win, handing the Dutch club its the first defeat after three wins.

İstanbul Başakşehir remained atop Group A with a 3-0 home win aver RFS. Fiorentina routed Scottish Hearts 5-1 to stay three points behind.
