In the previous round, LAFC defeated the Columbus Crew 4-2 on aggregate, while Miami advanced with a 4-0 win over the Cavalier side. LAFC’s victory over the Crew also helped them avenge past losses, including their elimination from the Leagues Cup and a missed MLS Cup in 2023.
Despite their progress, LAFC come into this match struggling, having lost four of their last five competitive games, including a 3-2 defeat to San Diego FC. However, they have a perfect home record in the Champions Cup, not conceding any goals in two matches at BMO Stadium.
Miami have faced LAFC three times before, winning two meetings, with a 1-0 victory in 2020 being the only home win for LAFC. The Herons previously overcame a strong Cavalier team with two 2-0 victories and had a perfect March, winning all six competitive matches.
Despite their impressive form, Miami have lost both of its previous quarter-final matches in the competition. Conversely, LAFC has never lost a Champions Cup tie to an MLS team, defeating Nashville SC last year and Sporting Kansas City this year.
In their last visit to BMO Stadium, Miami secured a 3-1 victory, marking only their second away win against a California club.
