India vs England 1st Test begins today in Headingley with both teams kicking off their World Test Championship 2025-27 campaigns. India are looking for their first Test series win in England since 2007 and have a young captain at their helm. Shubman Gill is leading India for the first time in Tests and he does not have the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to rely on. India have a massive challenge in front of them as England start as big favourites.

Trophy unveiled
James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday unveiled the trophy for the India-England series which will now be called Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The trophy was earlier named in honour of Iftikhar Ali Pataudi who played for both India and England. Now the winning captain will be handed a Pataudi Medal.
Young Gill goes viral
A photo of Shubman Gill, most probably in his teens, has gone viral on social media. Punjab Cricket Association, the domestic side of Gill, posted the photo on social media congratulating the 25-year-old ahead of the his Test captaincy debut. Gill will aim to join the likes of Kapil Dev who came from Punjab and led India to great heights.
Tendulkar's prediction
"I have settled for 3-1 to India," Sachin told ESPN Cricinfo when asked to predict the result of the five-Test series. "I think the bowling attack, a lot will depend on Bumrah and how the other guys support him. Bumrah, without any doubt, is going to be our strike bowler," he said.
Gill to bat at 4
"I think there is still discussion going on about who is going to play 3. But 4, 5 are definitely fixed. I think Shubman is going to bat at 4 and I am going to stick to No. 5 as of now, and rest we are going to keep on discussing that," said Rishabh Pant on the match eve.
England Playing XI
England have already revealed their Playing XI two days before the start of the 1st Test.
