A businessman was allegedly shot at by his wife in the midst of a quarrel between them on a busy highway at a Bangalore suburb, an incident that had played out in dramatic fashion on Friday evening. Sairam MR, 52, who had taken three bullets in his abdomen from a pistol that belonged to his wife Hamsa, is currently being treated at a hospital and his condition, police say, is out of danger.
The incident, as the police narrated it, took place when the couple, who run a security agency, was returning to Bangalore from Hosur, a town just across the Tamil Nadu border 40 kilometres away, where they had driven up on some work.

They had stopped for lunch on the way back and it appears they had a few drinks. Back in the car, the police say, they got into an argument and Sriram allegedly punched his wife who was driving. Hamsa was carrying her licensed pistol at the time. Sairam got out of the car despite being shot at and managed to get into a bus. His wife drove up and got ahead of the bus at a busy junction and attempted to reach Sairam, alerting people around. The police at the spot disarmed her and took her into custody. Police said they they had been making preparations for an upcoming family event and suspect the quarrel had to do with a disagreement over that.

A senior official said that Hamsa has been booked for attempted murder and under Section 27 of the Arms Act. He said that she too is currently in hospital, undergoing treatment for her injuries.
