England Women faced Bangladesh in the 8th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on October 7. The four-time champions narrowly avoided an upset, clinching a four-wicket win thanks to Heather Knight’s superb half-century.
Bangladesh batted first and were held to 178 all out in 49.4 overs. Their innings got a boost from Sobhana Mostary’s 60, who anchored the middle order, and a late cameo from Rabeya Khan (43 off 27 balls) that added respectability to the total. England’s spinners were superb, Sophie Ecclestone took 3 for 24, while Charlie Dean, Linsey Smith and Alice Capsey also chipped in with wickets to derail Bangladesh’s momentum.
In reply, England stumbled early, Marufa Akter struck with the new ball to remove both openers, and a fierce spell from Fahima Khatun triggered a mini-collapse that saw the score slump to 103 for 6. But at the pivotal moment, Heather Knight played a patient and composed innings, eventually finishing unbeaten on 79, and along with Charlie Dean, assembled an 80-run stand for the seventh wicket to pull England through.
England won by 4 wickets in 46.1 overs, thereby taking their second win of the tournament and moving to the top of the points table.
