Gridco is unable to pay NTPC due to default on payment by private distribution companies, who sourced power from it after Orissa became the first state to privatise power distribution.
Now the NTPC is threatening to cut off power unless its dues are cleared. This would mean six-hour-long power cuts every day. At the same time, the revised tariff order passed by the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission would hit consumers in the state.
Is there a lesson here for Delhi’s teething problems with privatised power supply?
