The killing of Ummer Fayaz by Hizbul Mujahideen may be widely seen as a warning by the terrorist group to the Kashmiris against joining security forces. But, it has hardly deterred the youth in the valley as scores of them- both boys and girls- turned up for the police job test here on Saturday.

A total of 67,218 candidates have applied for 698 posts of sub-inspector in J&K police, reported The Times of India. They appeared in the physical endurance test (PET) and physical standard test (PST) ignoring the threatening videos issued by terrorist groups from time to time.

The report says that the candidates from the valley have far outnumbered their counterparts from the Jammu region. Of the total candiates, 35,722 are from Kashmir while 31,496 from the Jammu region. Among them 6,000 were Kashmiri girls.

A girl candidate told The Times of India that she wanted to be in police to help local women saying that she has seen women facing very bad times due to militancy in Kashmir.
