Tell us about Ta Ra Rum Pum.

The story is such that everyone will relate to it, anyone who has a family.

Your role?

I play the mum. It is a role one can easily identify with.

What’s the story like?

It talks about how every problem can be overcome if you have a loving family.

Acting with Saif again must have been like revisiting Hum Tum...?

We have a very good rapport that translates into good chemistry on screen. And we’re both spontaneous actors. We can sit down and give each other inputs without it seeming intrusive. Saif is a good listener, very easygoing.

What’s your next film?

Am working on Laaga Chunri Mein Daag with Pradeep Sarkar and it’ll probably be released at the end of this year.

What about Sanwariya?

It’ll be done by July. It’s lovely working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

How do Sanjay Bhansali and Pradeep Sarkar differ in their approach?

I’ll tell you the similarity. Both have an eye for detail which inspires you to give your best.

Bhansali has a quality of pinning his actors down to give their best. What’s been your experience?

After Black we understand each other’s language. He extracts the best out of you.

His best quality?

His hard work and excellence makes you reciprocate in kind.

How was it working with newcomers Ranbir (Rishi Kapoor’s son) and Sonam (Anil Kapoor’s daughter) in Sanwariya?

They were Sanjay’s assistants during Black. I know Sonam personally and it’s great to see them don the greasepaint. I will believe it’s true when I see them on screen.
