Defending champion Madison Keys is in battle against Oleksandra Oliynykova with the 1st set headed towards a tie-break. Keys was trailing 0-4 at one stage but earned two breaks back to stay alive in first set.

Defending champion Madison Keys overcomes scare to make it through to the next round with a win over Oleksandra Oliynykova. The American won 7-6 (8-6), 6-1 to seal her spot in round two.

Indian-origin American Nishesh Basavareddy is in action at the Australian Open today and the player is down one set against local Christopher O'Connell.

No. 8 seed Ben Shelton is in action on the Rod Laver Arena and is up against Frenchman Ugo Humbert. The American has won the first set 6-3 and currently leading 4-2 in the second.

Australian Open 2026 sees another player get retired hurt, this time Raphael Collignon during his match against Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian looked firm favourite to progress to round 2 as he was leading 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5, 3-2 in the match.

“Obviously I was very nervous at the start,” Keys said. “As nervous as I was . . . I’m really glad to be back, and that I got through that match.”

Keys praised Oliynykova, who signed autographs, accepted loud applause, and waved a Ukrainian flag on-court after the match.

“My opponent today was incredible,” Keys said. “She started so well. Such a great competitor. She definitely made it tricky for me.” (AP)

Ben Shelton, the eighth seed has defeated Ugo Humbert 6-3, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (5). 

India's Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha, who is partnering Pruchya Isaro, has lost his first set of the men's doubles. They are contesting against Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar.

Eliot Spizzirri, who beat rising star Joao Fonseca, the 19-year-old Brazilian, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, No. 15 Karen Khachanov and Sebastian Baez, who outlasted Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3.

Cruz Hewitt, who is the son of former player, Lleyton Hewitt, is watching Sinner vs Gaston alongside the Federer twins. Hewitt will be taking the court tomorrow as he partners J Duckworth as they prepare to take on India's Yuki Bhambri and his partner A. Goransson in the men's doubles.

Hugo Gaston has retired out in the third set against Jannik Sinner due to an achilles heel issue. This means Sinner has entered the second round.

Belinda Bencic extends her head-to-head lead against Katie Boulter to 2-0 as she secures a rather comfortable 6-0, 7-5 victory in the first round of Australian Open. The Swiss dominates the first set and manages to hold on despite tough competition in the second.

Taylor Fritz starts his Australian Open campaign with a comfortable victory against French opponent Valentin Royer. The American wins 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 to progress to the second round.

Naomi Osaka's clash with Antonia Ruzic kicks off and the duo evenly matches each other in an intense first set. Both exchange service breaks as the set remains level at 3-3. Check out the live score here.

Stefanos Tsitsipas has a sloppy start to his first match in the Australian Open 2026 as he lost the first set 4-6 to Shintaro Mochizuki. Mochizuki saves two break points in the first set and compels Tsitsipas to make mistakes.

Naomi Osaka is facing some tough competition from Antonia Ruzic in their first-round clash. After clinching the first set 6-3, Osaka loses the second one 3-6. Ruzic has dominated the service game so far in the match.

Stefanos Tsitsipas comes back strong in the second set as he wins it 6-3 in his favour. The Greek star shows better display of his service game this time and also saves all five break points.

Despite losing the second set to Antonia Ruzic, Naomi Osaka shows her grit in the third set and emerges victorious. It is a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory in the end for the Japanese as she secures progress to the next round. Osaka nails 11 aces compared to none by Ruzic and it makes the difference in the end.

A hard-fought encounter between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Shintaro Mochizuki comes to an end with the former securing a victory. Tsitsipas comes back from behind to win the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. After a sloppy start, Tsitsipas steps up and secures a spot in the second round.
