Amid the escalating row over Tamil Nadu minister Udayanidhi Stalin's controversial remarks on 'Sanatan Dharma', a moniker often used to address Hinduism, on Thursday, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad launched a verbal attack on former Congress chief Sonia gandhi for maintaining silence over the matter.

The veteran politician was heard saying, "Congress party is doing harm to Hindu beliefs while Sonia Gandhi's silence is deafening."

Today was not the first time when the BJP MP targeted Congress and the other constituent members of the Opposition alliance INDIA over the DMK leader's remarks on Hindu religion.

Previously on Monday, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad called the INDIA bloc “anti-Hindu” for their “shameful silence” on the remark made by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu minister and son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, on Sanatana Dharma.

the leader further added that the “silence” by INDIA bloc leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and others over Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remark was “shocking”.

“This shameful silence by Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders like Nitish Kumar, and Tejashwi Yadav, is not only baffling, but shocking, to say the least. Rahul Gandhi, please speak up on this issue”, said Ravi Shankar Prasad, as per media reports.

“Why Rahul Gandhi is silent on this issue? This whole bloc (INDIA alliance) can become anti-Hindu for votes,” Prasad said.

About the Sanatan Dharma remark

The spiralling controversy stemmed from Tamil Nadu minister Udayanidhi Stalin's bold remarks on 'Sanatan Dharma' at a meeting of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artists Association in Chennai on Saturday.

In his address, the DMK leader had drawn similarities between the Sanatan Dharma and widespread diseases like Covid-19, Dengue and Malaria and also added that, much like the diseases, the religion should also be eradicated.

In a second statement, Udayanidhi said he stood by his statement and said "like the spread of diseases like COVID-19, dengue, and malaria by mosquitoes, that Sanatan Dharma is responsible for many social evils". .
