A group of women lawyers filed a case in the SC last week protesting the ban on entry of women into the Sabarimala temple. Now comes a statement from Kerala’s temple affairs minister G. Sudhakaran that he too is against the ban. He said the CPI(M) would back any popular movement which protests this discrimination. If other temples across the state can admit women of all ages, then why was Sabarimala allowed the ban, he wondered. The temple, which gets an annual grant of Rs 8 lakh, should be for all citizens, is Sudhakaran’s view.
