- Have a password-based access to the wi-fi network and change that password frequently. A combination of alphabets and numbers works best. Don't store thispassword on the computer.
- Disable Service Set Identifier (SSID) broadcast. This transmits your wi-fi signals to everyone in range.
- Check regularly for the wi-fi router (device that facilitates wi-fi access) security updates on the manufacturer's website.
- Disable data-sharing on your computer.
- Specify the computers that can access the Internet through the wi-fi network. Block anonymous access requests.
- Turn off the router when not in use. For a network to be hacked, a router needs to be turned on.
