For the first time after he was remanded to judicialcustody in the Central Prison here, members of former Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi's family were allowed to meet him in the prison today, police said.

Karunanidhi's wife and daughter were with him for overan hour, police said.

They had to wait for sometime before they were givenpermission to enter the prison.

Meanwhile, barring a few incidents of stone throwing,the overall situation in Tamil Nadu was "normal and peaceful", the StateGovernment said today.

"There is no significant incident of law and orderin the state", an official release said here.

It claimed that 75 to 90 per cent of Government buseswere plying in the state while essential services were also being maintained.All long distance trains and electric train services were being operated asusual, it said.

There was nearly 75 per cent attendance in Governmentoffices in most places. Forty to 60 per cent of shops and most of theeducational institutions remained open, the release said.

The Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Dr C. Rangarajan, whohas been asked to hold additional charge of Tamil nadu, will be sworn-intomorrow morning at Raj Bhavan, according to official sources.

The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, N.K. Jain,would administer the oath to the new Governor.
