Tell us about the idea of an all-women’s art exhibition.

I am trying to take a look at some of the works and readapting those that are dear to me. The approach to art by women has changed a lot in these years.

More women artists now?

There’s always more scope for women here though there has been an increase in numbers since the 1960s if you put it like that.

How far have they progressed?

Oh, a long way and in a much more involved way too. And I’m speaking in a global context.

How is this exhibition different from your usual ones?

This is a special show, intimate and personal. However, as for artists I don’t look out for them in terms of gender.

Is there a theme?

It’s called Diary Entries and it basically speaks about what women go through. Earlier we used to have diaries where you jot down your thoughts—it’s a bit like that.

You’ve been in the business for a while—has it evolved?

It has undergone a complete 180 degree change. It has evolved in terms of awareness and structure though it needs maturing when you speak of improvement.

How to promote new artists?

People refer artists to us. You then see the work, speak to them and see where they are from; then follow your gut.

Your favourite artists?

Louise Bourgeois who passed away recently was an inspiration. A few from India as well.

Your view on international art in India?

It’s a slow process that takes a lot of time. We need to promote our work first. There are few families I know who own Picassos, but again, few.

Tell us about video installations: what do they offer?

We had a consistent programme for a year. It helps in creating awareness and more than a few researchers have come by and taken a look.
