Bangladesh began their Asia Cup T20 2025 campaign on a positive note, registering a seven-wicket win over Hong Kong in their tournament opener at Sheikh Zayed International Cricket Stadium.

Chasing 144, the side crossed the line with 14 balls to spare, thanks to a composed half-century from skipper Litton Das.

Clinical Bowling From Tigers

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Bangladesh kept Hong Kong’s scoring in check throughout the innings. Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/21) led the way with the ball, while Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain supported well to ensure wickets fell at regular intervals.

Despite a fighting 42 off 40 balls from Nizakat Khan, Hong Kong could only muster 143/7 in their 20 overs, a total that always felt slightly below par.

A Shaking Start For Bangladesh

The chase wasn’t without early setbacks as Parvez Hossain Emon (19) and Tanzid Hasan (14) departed inside the powerplay, leaving Bangladesh at 51/2.

However, Litton Das stepped up at No. 3, anchoring the innings with authority. He stitched together a decisive 95-run partnership with Towhid Hridoy, who remained unbeaten on 35 despite finding it difficult to accelerate.

Litton struck six boundaries and a six in his 59 off 39 deliveries before dragging one onto his stumps off Ateeq Iqbal (2/14), with victory all but assured.

Bangladesh eventually sealed the game in the 18th over, securing their first points of the competition. For Hong Kong, Iqbal and Ayush Shukla (1/32) were the only wicket-takers, while Aizaz Khan bowled a tidy spell. However, their second straight defeat leaves them with plenty to reflect upon, while Bangladesh head into the next clash with confidence.
