Fielding Spectacle
Virat Kohlis are throwing their bodies at will and have transformed Indian fielding. Fitness plays a key role in such scintillating feats. Here power, speed and agility differentiate the average from the best. Power exercises for the legs build speed. Stuff like jumping on a two-feet box both forward and laterally along with split squat jumps are good exercises. Squat and dynamic lunges with heavy loads enhance force production in the muscle, increasing speed. Blending jumps with heavy weight leg exercises thrice a week sounds a good template. For greater agility, structuring the drills like movements in the field makes sense. Creating drills within a distance of 10 to 20 metres and incorporating forward, backward and lateral movements coupled with 30-40 metre sprints would enhance both speed and agility.
