Torrential overnight rains along the Gold Coast region of the northeastern state of Queensland, inundated parts of Australia’s third-most populous city Brisbane, the capital of the second-largest and third-most populous state, killing seven people. The flooding in Brisbane is described as the worst since 2011, when the entire city drowned in a once-in-a-century event.
