What’s new about Honeymoon Travels?
I think it’s fresh and interesting both structurally and in content, it has ingredients of popular cinema but is about real people and issues.
You’ve got a huge star cast. Is it a case of first time lucky?
No, it took almost two years to cast and get everyone's dates. I got a lot of rejections and a lot of positive responses too. It has 12 stars.
Among the twelve characters, who was your favourite?
It’s a true ensemble piece and required each character to be drawn out. I felt for all of them.
Tell us about this hot kissing scene between Boman and Shabana Azmi.
Shabana was very professional about it but Boman was nervous and kept asking if it was really necessary. When the cameras were rolling Shabana was ready to go but Boman was somewhere behind, spraying perfume.
The release of Honeymoon coincides with Eklavya. Will it hurt your film?
I’m not thinking about it. Audiences do get divided if two films release the same week.
Any reason for your choice of music composers Vishal-Shekhar?
Yes, they got my sensibility. It was good to work with people who understand you need.
There was some talk about Salaam-E-Ishq being your idea. Was it?
No, it wasn’t.
Your other projects?
Nothing as yet but I’m toying with an idea and will start scripting if it works.
So is film direction a career now?
Yes. I’ve been an AD for 8 years executing someone else’s vision, now I’m realising my own.
