Summary
Summary of this article
  • Waseem became the fourth fastest batter to 3000 T20I runs, scoring 69 despite scratchy form.

  • Sharafu’s aggressive 51 gave UAE momentum on a slow, low Abu Dhabi pitch.

  • Junaid Siddique starred with 4/23 as Oman crumbled to 130 all out, suffering their second straight loss.

A skillful half-century from Alishan Sharafu gave UAE early momentum on a sluggish Abu Dhabi pitch. Charging down the track regularly, he struck six boundaries in the powerplay and even cleared the ropes with a superb inside-out drive against legspinner Samay Shrivastava. His 51 provided the perfect launchpad for UAE after a slow start of 11 for 0 in three overs.

Waseem’s Milestone Knock

Skipper Muhammad Waseem battled through scratchy patches but still made 69 off 54 balls, becoming the fourth fastest batter to reach 3000 T20I runs, behind Mohammad Rizwan, Virat Kohli, and Babar Azam.

He mixed patience with bursts of aggression, smashing Aamir Kaleem for three fours in one over and reaching his fifty with a trademark straight six. Oman’s sloppy fielding—dropping him twice—proved costly as UAE’s middle order, led by Harshit Kaushik and Muhammad Zohaib, added a brisk 40 off 21 to close on 172 for 5.

Oman’s Collapse

Chasing 173, Oman stumbled early as skipper Jatinder Singh’s bright 20 off 10 was cut short by Junaid Siddique, sparking a collapse of three wickets in 14 balls. Reduced to 32 for 4 and later 50 for 5, their chase never recovered. Siddique returned to strike twice in the 16th over, finishing with superb figures of 4 for 23 as Oman were bowled out for 130 in 18.4 overs.

UAE’s First Win

With this 42-run victory, UAE bounced back from their heavy defeat to India, while Oman slumped to a second consecutive loss and now are eliminated from the Super 4s.

India Qualifies For Super 4s

India became the first team to seal a Super 4s berth in the Asia Cup 2025 after UAE’s 42-run win over Oman on Monday confirmed their progression. Suryakumar Yadav’s men, unbeaten in the group stage with convincing wins over UAE and Pakistan, had virtually booked their spot with Sunday’s thumping seven-wicket triumph against Pakistan.

With Oman eliminated, the second spot from the group will now be decided in a virtual knockout between Pakistan and UAE on Wednesday, with the winner joining India in the next round.
