The Scorpene deal was inked for Rs 18,798 crore in October 2005 despite serious objections from various quarters. Chief Vigilance Commissioner N. Vittal had raised questions about the deal in 2002, pointing out that it was a single tender deal without competitive bidding. If nobody wanted the deal then, who pushed it to the finishing line? We are aware that these stories are in the past. We could call it history—a history that has won us the goodwill of our readers. But what will sustain the relationship is the future.
