Dear Readers,
Last year when we conceived of Outlook, we saw two cornerstones as the basis ofthe new magazine. Relevance and Excellence. We knew that to succeed, themagazine needed to be relevant to its target readers and excellent not only in the qualityof writing and reportage but also in its presentation.
As a genuine weekly newsmagazine, Outlook is relevant to people who understandand value the power of information, and need to keep abreast of change on a weeklybasis but have limited time to do so. The important characteristics of the magazineare that it is sharp and gives the essence of news succinctly. Yet, it is comprehensiveand covers a wide range of issues and events. It is investiga-tive and in its short spanof just six months, our editorial team, both at home and abroad, has already broken anumber of stories. And being a weekly, it is fresh and cap-tures events as they unfoldrather than when they have receded into the past.
To achieve excellence, we had planned to bring readers and advertisers to internationalstandards both in editorial content and in presentation. In pursuit of this goal, I ampleased to inform you that we have now upgraded the quality of paper to what magazineslike News week and Time use. Outlook printed on the new paper at TataPress, which has one of the best printing facilities in India, will highlight even morevisibly the essential diff e rence between us and other newsmagazines of the country.
A publishers vision is complete only when the magazine reaches those readers whothe advertisers are also interested in. Our readers are concentrated in major cities andit is our endeavour not only to provide value to them at the reasonable price of Rs 10(less for sub-scribers), but also the highest quality of service by even hand-deliveringsubscriber copies wherever feasible. We also believe that the magazine offers great valueto advertisers of premium quality goods and services who want to reach discerning buyers. This is even more pertinent now that we have changed the paper quality and, as we rapidlymove towards the magical 100,000 circulation mark.
I am confident that with the overwhelming response from readers and continued supportfrom advertisers, we will not only fulfil but surpass our promise of being relevant andexcellent.
With best wishes,
Deepak Shourie
