Akums Drugs & Pharma Ltd has inked a pact with Agra-based Sharda University to strengthen long-term cooperation in pharmaceutical research, technology transfer and skill development.
The MoU establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration across multiple areas, including research, innovation, training and industry exposure. By bringing together Sharda University’s strong academic foundation and Akums’ extensive manufacturing infrastructure and research and development capabilities, the alliance aims to accelerate the creation of advanced pharmaceutical solutions while enhancing the employability and industry readiness of students.
A key pillar of the collaboration will be joint research in emerging and next-generation molecules, as well as advanced drug delivery systems. Through this focus, both institutions seek to contribute to innovation-led growth in the pharmaceutical sector and address evolving healthcare needs. The partnership also places strong emphasis on technology transfer, ensuring that promising academic research does not remain confined to laboratories but is translated into commercially viable and scalable pharmaceutical products, said a spokesperson of the pharma firm.
Student engagement and experiential learning form an important component of the MoU. Under the agreement, students from Sharda University will gain access to structured internship programmes at Akums’ manufacturing facilities. These internships are designed to provide hands-on exposure to real-world pharmaceutical operations, including manufacturing processes, quality management systems, regulatory compliance and R&D workflows. In addition, industrial visits will be organised to help students better understand large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing and adopt industry best practices, he added.
To further strengthen practical learning, Akums and Sharda University will jointly organise seminars, workshops and technical training programmes. These initiatives aim to enhance students’ technical knowledge, practical skills and understanding of current industry trends. By aligning academic learning with industry requirements, the collaboration seeks to improve students’ career prospects in the pharmaceutical and allied sectors.
The MoU also outlines plans for joint project development initiatives. These projects will focus on translating academic innovations into market-ready solutions, encouraging applied research and innovation-driven problem-solving. Such collaborations are expected to contribute meaningfully to addressing unmet needs in healthcare while fostering a culture of research excellence and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members.
Speaking on the occasion, Arushi Jain, Director, Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, highlighted the importance of strong industry–academia partnerships in driving sustainable innovation. She said that meaningful collaboration between academic institutions and industry players is essential to building a future-ready pharmaceutical ecosystem. “Our partnership with Sharda University underlines Akums’ commitment to nurturing young talent, accelerating translational research and providing students with valuable real-world industry exposure,” she said.
Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi Ranjan, Vice Chancellor, Sharda University, Agra, described the MoU as a significant step towards strengthening experiential learning and applied research. “This collaboration will open new avenues for our students and faculty in terms of research opportunities, internships and skill development. It will also ensure that academic innovations find pathways to real-world application. We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership that supports the growth and advancement of the pharmaceutical sector,” she said.
Overall, the strategic partnership between Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals and Sharda University aims to narrow the gap between academic research and industrial application. By combining knowledge, infrastructure and expertise, the collaboration seeks to prepare future talent to meet the evolving demands of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry, while contributing to innovation, research excellence and improved healthcare outcomes.
