The BCCI, the wealthiest cricket body in the world, reached another milestone in 2016-17 when it broke the Rs 7,000-crore barrier. Its net worth, as on March 31, 2016, was Rs 7,847.07 crore—over  191 times what it was 20 years ago. In 1995-96, BCCI was worth Rs 41.03 crore and made a surplus of Rs 23.50 crore. Just before the 1993 home series against England, then BCCI president I.S. Bindra and secretary Jagmohan Dalmiya sold the telecast rights for the home England series to TWI for $6,00,000 a match. Earlier, it used to pay Doordarshan to have the matches telecast. It has not looked back since.
