Summary of this article
  • Luka Doncic will miss at least one week due to a left finger sprain and lower left leg contusion

  • Doncic is expected to miss the Lakers' next four games, including matchups against the Kings, Trail Blazers, Timberwolves, and Grizzlies

  • With Doncic and LeBron James both sidelined, the Lakers will rely on Austin Reaves and other supporting players

Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is expected to miss at least one week due to a left finger sprain and a lower left leg contusion, the team announced Sunday.

The news comes after Doncic opened the season with back-to-back 40-point games, including 49 in a win over Minnesota on Friday night. That stellar performance came after he sprained a finger on his non-shooting hand in the opening minutes.

He will be reevaluated in approximately one week.

Doncic had taken on an even greater offensive load with LeBron James out until at least mid-November because of sciatica.

Doncic's probable one-week absence comes at an inopportune time for Los Angeles, which has six games in the next nine days. The Lakers will have to lean heavily on Austin Reaves, who has scored 51 points in their first two games, and reserves like Marcus Smart, Dalton Knecht and Jake LaRavia.
