Pakistan's bowling attack impressed during their Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Zayed Stadium on September 23. Spinner Abrar Ahmed delivered the most economical spell by any spinner in a Men’s T20 Asia Cup game, registering figures of 1/8 across four overs.

Ahmed's exceptional bowling created a new record, outperforming the previous benchmark set by Indian legend Harbhajan Singh (1/11). These are the top five most economical overs bowled by spinners (four overs bowled) in the T20 Asia Cup:

  1. Abrar Ahmed (Pakistan): 2.00 (1/8) vs Sri Lanka in 2025.

  2. Harbhajan Singh (India): 2.75 (1/11) vs UAE in 2016.

Sri Lanka's Batting Stumbles

Sri Lanka managed 133 for 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Their innings began with some promise as Pathum Nissanka briefly got off the mark, but he quickly lost his wicket. Regular wickets prevented Sri Lanka from building any sustained momentum.

Kamindu Mendis scored 50 runs from 44 balls, and Charith Asalanka added 20 runs from 19 deliveries. Abrar Ahmed's tight bowling, alongside earlier breakthroughs by Shaheen Shah Afridi and Hussain Talat, restricted Sri Lanka's lower order. Tail-ender Wanindu Hasaranga contributed 15 runs from 13 balls before Abrar's accurate left-arm spin dismissed him.
