In just over half a year, Gung—The Palace has earned a name for authentic Korean food, enough for the head of Samsung to give it a thumbs up. The secret of this three-floor restaurant’s success is the owner’s mother, who keeps a strict watch over the kitchen. The freshness of the food is maintained by having the meat, spices and sauces flown in from Korea. Already a hit with Delhi’s East Asian community, the restaurant has still to attract a large Indian clientele. And those with dietary prohibitions should bear in mind that most Korean dishes are based on pork and beef.

That said, Gung offers a delightful dining-out experience, with polite, well-trained waitresses from India’s northeast in elegant Korean attire, their little hats indicating their rank. We unreservedly recommend the succulent and subtly-flavoured pork galbi (grilled ribs) and the bibimbap (rice topped with vegetables, beef and egg, mixed with chilli paste). The portions are generous, and along with your main order, you also receive more than a dozen intriguing side dishes—including four kinds of kimchi, octopus cakes, shellfish with noodles—all of them delectable.
