Zimbabwe hosted South Africa for two Tests before the tri-series and were thrashed by the Proteas. They lost both the Tests with the second Test also putting Brian Lara's highest individual score of 400 not out in danger before Wiaan Mulder decided to declare when he was at 367.
Zimbabwe then were outplayed in all four matches of the tri-series and would now by eyeing a better showing in the Tests against New Zealand.
The Kiwis flew high and won the tri-series without dropping a game and winning the final in a thrilling fashion. They are expected to dominate Zimbabwe with a near full strength squad named.
