'U' and 'A' certificates for news? Give me a break, say channels

The proposed guidelines for censorship and certification of news spells trouble for TV:

  • News content to be certified U, UA and A.
  • Adult content, defined as any sustained depiction of violence, including deaths in natural calamities, can only be shown between 11 pm to 4 am.
  • Sexually explicit stories have to wait for the late night slot
  • The broadcaster must brief participants in talk shows on what they can say and what not
  • Live shows will have to be interrupted to effect cuts

  • Prolonged or frequent close-up shots of gruesome violence or crime
  • Depiction of images of dead or seriously wounded or gruesome violent events, natural calamities or accidents
  • Insensitive coverage or explicit discussions on sex.
