Space journey never existed even in my wildest dreams. My dreams are realisable.
What propels you into space?
The thrill is undeniable. Not so much for a personal, first-hand experience as much as sharing it with millions of people back on earth.
Your reaction to the prospect of being India’s first space tourist?
I’m looking forward to recording every moment of the experience. I’m a videographer at a local wedding, avidly chronicling it all for the future.
An accomplished businessman like you wouldn’t sink Rs 1 crore on space?
Isn’t it worthwhile to spend Rs 1 crore for a once-in-many-lifetimes trip than buy 10 cents of land in Kochi?
Does the prospect of going beyond geographical boundaries excite you?
Travels are my routine. Going to space on the wings of Virgin Galactic is not going to be like Kerala’s first inveterate travel writer, S.K. Pottekkat, who journeyed into new lands, often in penury and at risk to life.
What about the preparations?
I’ve been jogging every morning for the past 45 days. I should be doing that now, anyway, at 35. One thing voyage-specific I’ll start is yoga. All that one requires is normal health.
Are you afraid of encountering infinity?
How much of it will I get to see during the two-and-half hours flight, cruising at four times the speed of sound?
Ever considered the risks?
It’s much safer than travelling on the main centre road, Kottayam to Thiruvananthapuram.
Does this typify the Malayalee wanderlust?
Malayalees are everywhere, not for the love of travel but for jobs. I don’t think our fellowmen ungrudgingly spend on travel.
What next?
I’d like to go to the moon.
