The Supreme Court has sealed the fate of mining giant Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited. KIOCL has been a contentious subject in recent times in Karnataka, as mining in this bio hotspot was associated with the spurt of Naxal activity in the state. On Tuesday, the SC dismissed the review petition that sought reversal of the order to shut down the mines permanently by December 31. As this would deprive nearly 2,500 employees of their livelihood, both Deve Gowda and Dharam Singh urged the PM to look into the matter.
