Recently Nigerian authorities disclosed that a Chinese company wasmarketing drugs in Nigeria using a "made-in-India" stamp. Have Chineseauthorities confirmed the details of this case; and what action is being takento prevent such misuse in future?

The Chinese government resolutely opposes and cracks down on the illicitmanufacture and sale of fake drugs. Upon reading the reports, the Chinesegovernment has taken this issue very seriously and the State Food and DrugAdministration has already sent an investigation team to the local provinces toverify this matter.

The Chinese government will strictly implement the laws and regulations toinvestigate and deal with this matter whenever what was reported is confirmed.

Regarding international business, we advocate the foreign companies to carry outlawful trade with the legal pharmaceutical companies in China and oppose thetrade with illegal companies without the qualified drug production and businesslicenses.

And we propose to strengthen communications between governments and drugsupervision authorities and appreciate the supply of these details so that wecan facilitate the verification and resolve this matter in an early date.

India recently revoked a 6-month ban on toys imported from China, after Chinasaid it will take up this matter at the WTO. However, Indian industry continuesto claim Chinese imports are available at far lower than their local prices. What is China's response to claims that Indian markets are being flooded withless expensive goods from China?

We have noted that the ban on imported toys stated in the Notification No.113 of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India doesn't any moreaim merely at the toys imported from China, which could be treated as a positiveaction. However, it should be noted that the imported toys have not yet beengranted national treatment. Accordingly we will continue keeping our eyes onthis issue.

For a long time, the Chinese products have won the hearts of the consumers allover the world with their competitive prices and good quality. The increase ofexport of Chinese products to India shows that there is a great demand for thesecompetitive products in Indian market, which is mainly determined by thecomplementarity of the industries between India and China. Besides, under thebackground of the current global financial crisis, buying competitively pricedChinese products also reflects a global trend. China is committed to solve alltrade related problems through both dialogue and consultation. We firmly opposeany unilateral actions which is discriminatory and violates basic WTOprinciples.

In recent years China's economy has grown due to high demand for Chineseproducts in the rest of the world. Now, during the downturn, the government ofChina has taken steps to stimulate demand in its economy. Considering the largesize and high growth rate of China's economy, what potential is there for Indiancompanies to participate in the Chinese economy? Are Indian companies encouragedto set up business units there?

Over the past 30 years of opening-up and reform, a series of foreigninvestment policies, legislative system and sound coordinated facilities ofChina have been built up and remarkably improved. In the current globalfinancial crisis, China and India, as two emerging economic powers, shall joinour efforts to ride over the difficulties together. Chinese government accordshigh priority to optimisation of industrial structure, technical innovation andenvironment protection among the all-round economic works. China's open marketstill leaves great investment space for the competent and renowned Indiancompanies in the areas of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, IT service, finance, renewable energy, etc.
